2009 Spring Baseball Information

Frequently Asked Questions about our spring baseball programs:

·         Where do I register?  Use our Online Registration page on the tab to the left.

·         When is the spring registration deadline?  March 6th, 2009.

·         Do you fill up?  Yes, we do!  Please register early to ensure a place.

·         Who can play?  Our spring baseball programs are open to boys and girls ages 5 through 16 who are residents of Lower Merion Township or Narberth.

·         What does it cost?  Registration fees vary with the player’s age, from $100/season for Tee Ball (5 year olds) up to $220/season (for 13-16 year olds).  Details are provided in the online registration pages.

·         When does the season start?  Our spring season runs 9 weeks, starting the week of April 13th and ending June 14th, 2009.

·         What division do I register for?  Each player registers for one of 12 age-specific divisions.  For details, see the Age Determination page using the tabs at left.  We cannot accommodate requests for players to play above their age-specific division.

·         Can I request a teammate?  For younger players (ages 5 to 8), you may request that your child be placed on the same team with one other player (but only one) who is registered in the same age division.

·         Are there player evaluations before the season?  For players ages 9 and up, yes.  Players age 9 and up are assigned to teams based on a coaches’ draft system in mid-March.  The draft system is design to yield teams of similar overall ability within each age division.  For this reason, we cannot accept teammate requests for the draft-based age divisions (AA, AAA, Quad-A, and Majors).

·         When are player evaluations for 9-year olds and up?  Evaluations will be held Sunday March 8th at the Friends’ Central Upper School, Rex Gymnasium, at 1101 City Avenue in Wynnewood, PA.  There are no evaluations for players age 5 through 8.  Additional details will be posted on the league web site before evaluations are held.

·         After I register, when will I hear from you next?  All players’ parents will be contacted in mid-to-late March by their team coach, who will provide information regarding the schedule and players on the team.  Please be sure we have your preferred email address when you register.

·         Who are the LMLL coaches?  Our coaches are all volunteer parents from the Township and Narberth who enjoy working with kids, love baseball, and appreciate everything youth baseball can teach kids about sportsmanship, working as part of a team, developing baseball skills and good judgment, and having fun together.

Other Frequently Asked Questions

·         When are games and practices held?  Dates and times vary by age division.  For current details, see the Game Schedule tab at left.

·         Where are games held?  All games and practices are held in Lower Merion Township parks and school ball fields.  Locations vary by age division.  Directions to all playing fields are listed on the Field Locations tab at left.

·         What does my registration fee pay for?  Registration fees cover the cost of the team equipment, players’ uniforms, playing field expenses, insurance, and umpires at games (9 year olds and up).  We are an all-volunteer, non-profit organization.

·         Why do registration fees vary with age?  Older players’ uniforms and equipment are more expensive, they use far more baseballs over the course of the season, and upper division teams have umpires at games.

·         Why do you require birth certificates for new players?  Little League International requires that we verify the ages of first-time players to ensure that every player is placed in his/her age-appropriate division.

·         Do you need volunteers?  Yes!  We gladly accept offers to help with coaching, team support, or administrative support.  Please check the box to volunteer in one of these areas when you register your child online and we will contact you before the season start.  Volunteers are especially needed for the Tee Ball (5 year old) level.

·         Do volunteer coaches receive training?  Yes.  LMLL runs coach pre-season training sessions each year for the coaches at all age divisions.  Our coach training programs are run by the baseball coaching staff at Friends’ Central School, and other area coaching clinics.
